Physical Efficiency Test (PET) Overview
Candidates clearing the UPSC CAPF (Assistant Commandant) written examination must undergo Physical Standards Test (PST) and Physical Efficiency Test (PET) administered across designated BSF, CRPF, CISF, ITBP, and SSB recruitment centers.
Physical efficiency events are qualifying in nature; however, failing in even a single event leads to immediate elimination from the selection process with zero re-tests permitted under any circumstances.
100-Meter Sprint Standards for Men & Women
The 100-meter sprint evaluates explosive acceleration, stride power, and immediate sprint conditioning.
Male candidates must complete the 100m dash in strictly 16.0 seconds or less. Female aspirants are allotted an official cutoff time of 18.0 seconds.
Electronic synchronized timing sensors or laser trigger mats record the official sprint duration with precision.
800-Meter Race Timings & Cutoff Rules
The 800-meter middle-distance run tests sustained cardiovascular stamina, pacing discipline, and respiratory endurance.
Men must complete two full track laps in 3 minutes and 45 seconds (225 seconds). Female candidates are given 4 minutes and 45 seconds (285 seconds) to cross the finish line.
Candidates are advised to practice consistent interval pacing rather than sprinting the initial 200 meters to prevent premature lactic burnout.
Long Jump & Shot Put Parameters
Long Jump: Male candidates must achieve a minimum legal leap of 3.5 meters into the sand pit. Female candidates must clear 3.0 meters. A maximum of 3 chances are allowed to register a valid jump without foul board violations.
Shot Put (Men Only): Male candidates must launch a 7.26 kg (16-pound) steel shot put a distance of at least 4.5 meters (3 chances permitted). Female candidates are exempted from the shot put event.
Medical Standards & Vision Disqualifications
Following PET clearance, qualifying candidates face comprehensive Medical Standard Tests conducted by designated Medical Examination Boards.
Vision requirements mandate 6/6 or 6/9 distant vision in the better eye and 6/12 in the worse eye with corrective lenses. Severe color blindness, squint, or chronic night blindness result in rejection.
Physical checks strictly verify that candidates do not have knock-knees, flat feet, varicose veins, or chest expansion less than 5 cm.
